Mk5 gti dies if maf sensor if connected

Hi i got a mk5 gti 2007, bwa on 160k miles just install some high flow intercooler pipes for my car. Came to start it up and it would die instantly. I rechecked all the clamps and they were all tight. Reading up on it i was told the maf sensor could be bad. So i borrowed another one from a diffrent gti and same problem.

I got the codes checked and showing codes for maf (as i had it unplugged) and a p2261 for diverter valve. I replaced the diverter valve with a revision g and same problem.

Anyone have any ideas off what it could be?

Hi, This is very typical when there is an air leak somewhere between the MAF sensor and the Turbo. If you check all the o-rings and pipe connections in this area there will be one that's not sealed correctly. The engine cuts out because the control unit is getting conflicting information, for example the air is being pulled through the leak and therefore not past the MAF sensor so the engine is getting more air than the MAF detects and the control unit is sending an amount of fuel for the measured amount not the actual amount of air. When you disconnect the MAF sensor the control unit reverts to preprogrammed averages of air for the current RPM and therefore the engine will run smoother. Hope this helps
