Do i need a 12v feed from the Ignition
« on: January 17, 2024, 12:01:22 pm »
I fitted an older pioneer head unit in place of my orginal stereo last night, I used a Halfords VW ISO harness and all went well, There was a loose RED & Orange cable that I matched up to the original looms RED/RED & orange/Orange Yellow , I could not see a dedicated orange,
All work fine but it looks like I have powered the red off a permeant 12V supply so I need to manually turn on and remember to turn off when leaving the car.
I'm not sure what is the function of the orange cable if any, i did not not have a multimeter at hand.

From some googling it seem I need to run a 12v off the ignition from an ignition live out of the fuse box, (This i can manage but). but where should i splice this power supply Into ? do i leave the original Red activated or replace it ? there was no instructions with the supplied harness.

I'm not bother about running the radio with the ignition/accessories off.

ok after further googling its clear I need to disconnect and extend the red cable back to the fuse board and get an ignition feed for that there.

Still not sure what the orange wire is for if anything

Thanks
