Removing / replacing internal tailgate trim
« on: June 05, 2024, 08:04:20 pm »
Hi guys,

I recently replaced the tailgate actuator on my Golf and I only had to pull away a couple of the clips nearest the replacement part. - got that from a YT vid

Question though, what the proper way of replacing the entire trim? Where do you start - I'm guessing the 2x screws in the handle recesses? But where do you pull the trim from etc.

I'll be honest, I'm a bit frightened of breaking it... I can't imagine they're cheap new? - if available still even.

The videos all just seem to imply brute force.

Thanks.

After the handle screws are removed it is all clips. Start from an edge and pry it out with a long flat head.

It will get to a stage where you can just pull it off

Get some cheap plastic trim tools off Amazon/ebay if you're worried about breaking it.
