Edition 30 GTI Bolster Repair
(1/1)
BOLTFOOT55:
Hi,
My edition 30 GTI has a worn driver's seat bolster. My upholsterer says that because the rip is on the part of the bolster that is part of the airbag, it cannot be repaired other than patching over it with a matching leather patch. That is not ideal because you cannot stick it down enough so that it does not flick up when you get up and down over time. Anyone know of a better repair?
Lewo:
Try another upholsterer for advice. If you find a decent one I'm sure they know what to do and maybe be able to replace to complete leather panel and use the appropriate strength stitching for the air bags. Wont be cheap though.
Might pay to look for another 2nd hand seat.
I had quotes of around £350 to replace cloth bolster & repair the foam, ended up buying complete interior and selling off parts I didn't need.
Bit of a ball ache but ended up cheaper.
pudding:
Have a look on European ebay for a LHD passenger seat.
New seat covers from VW are eye watering, approx £1000 each, plus extra for the heating pads and foams.
Cosmos:
I found a great condition passenger seat on ebay and got a trimmers in glasgow to strip down the seats to make 1 good seat. Did a cracking job and got the new stitching in the old existing holes.

That is good work :happy2: Yeah a UK passenger seat is an option as well to harvest parts from.
