Cambelt and Waterpump change 'book time'

(1/3) > >>

Anyone know what this is? (if there is such a thing..) Interested to know as the garage i used upped their price and said it took quite a bit longer than they expected but they capped it at 4.5 hours. Job also included replacing the aux belt if that adds any time.

I was also charged £30 for a 'turbo actuator valve' which they said broke off while taking everything apart.

Thanks

ZoliWorks:
"Book time" probably refers to the amount of time the service manual says a job will take. Most shops take this time and add an hour or 2 on-top and charge you for that amount.

Fair enough I suppose as there are always things that don't go smoothly. Total came to Just under £550. Was something like

Timing belt kit £130
Auxiliary belt £15
Coolant £10
Turbo actuator valve £25
4.5 hours labour @ £60

Plus VAT.

I'd say it seems like a fair price.
I done my own the other week. I didn't time myself and I was not working in ideal conditions, but it definitely took longer than 4.5 hours. I'd say if someone had done a few and knew exactly what they were doing and didn't come across any issues 4.5 hours would be doable.

FatWelshBoy:
The specialist I use charges 3 hours labour for belt and pump. He's done 100s, maybe 1000s, so I'd say 4.5 hours is reasonable if they haven't done many.
