Finally got both mirrors folding with the ambient lighting, after replacing a dodgy passenger mirror assembly and all my speakers work after reconnecting the passenger tweeter connector  :ashamed:

Hi guys great info...

wish i would have stumbled across this forum about a week ago when i ordered my new mirrors fold/tilt(reversing)/illuminated...i naturally assumed the controllers would be the correct ones or ones that would just work....oh dear there "m", great!!!! now I'll be checking out eBay UK and Germany to try and get the correct ones really hacked off no doubt I'll be bidding up against some of you guys

might just bite the bullet and buy from vw but at 400 quid its quite steep just for a bit of electronics and a motor.

great info once again

first post so nice to meet you all

Whereas the older Gen 2 modules did everything, they have split up the Gen 3 into more individual  options

So Camel if you have Gen 2 controllers in your door (I assume these were on the older Mk5's) then you just need the suitable mirror housing folding/lighting and some VCDS magic?

I don't think there are different gen 2 controllers apart from a min and max controller, certainly there isn't the option in the coding to enable folding - they just do it with the correct mirrors

Will have to have a look at my control modules then, see which level and Gen they are, if its simple then could be added to my list of mods to do!

I guess gen 2 max controllers are the right ones to deal with all the extra functionality, 2 folding mirrors with lights, and a new switch if I have gen 2.  Sound about right?

Yes you need either Gen 2 Max or Gen 3 Max (with options) to get folding mirrors, I believe all versions support the puddle lights in the bottom of the mirrors

No VCDS coding required for Gen 2 for folding mirrors

You can't easily swap Gen 2/Gen 3 regulators over as VW modified the door wiring between the generations and moved all the pins around
