I'm a newbie with the vcds cable so don't shoot me down,did you code the drivers controller as well as the above pic is only the passenger side.
I'll have a look at my coding on mine if you like? :smiley:

Drivers side gives me the same options

Yes please if you have GEN 3 controllers  :happy2:

Looking at ETKA and using the usefull tools at http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx to decode the models there appears to be 5 different versions of the drivers controller  :rolleye:

Looks like I have the wrong drivers controller

6XC = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable
6XN = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable, separately heated
6XG = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable/heated
6XT = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, automatically dimming, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated
6XQ = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated

then on top of this there are the other options

9Q0 = Without multi-function display/ on-board computer
9Q1 = Multi-function display/on-board computer
9Q2 = Multi-function display/on-board computerwith check control
9Q4 = Multi-function display/on-board computerwith check control
9Q5 = Multi-function display with control

 :confused:

oh 'ek! Not as simple as I thought then! Thanks for the update & info cameluk  :happy2:

I've got me mirrors & switch now but not the controllers yet. Mine is a MY08 too so what are the part numbers for the controllers that I'm gonna need? I'm thought it was  1K0 959 701N or Q  for the driver's side & 1K0 959 702N  for the passenger's. Is that not right then?

Steve.

The part numbers appear to be correct, but ETKA lists colour codes for the various options i.e 1K0959701N Z72 is drivers door, with folding mirrors + auto dimming + memory if I translate the model codes correctly, the one I got as 1K0959701N Z6R which works out to be 6XG = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable/heated,  with which I can't get it to accept the coding for the folding mirrors so it appears against advice I can find about 3 GEN controllers, that the colour code is important

All I have to do is try and working out the meaning of the following options

9Q0 = Without multi-function display/ on-board computer
9Q1 = Multi-function display/on-board computer
9Q2 = Multi-function display/on-board computerwith check control
9Q4 = Multi-function display/on-board computerwith check control
9Q5 = Multi-function display with control

I'm quite interested in this mod myself but given that the option was only £120 at the time I think if I do it it'll have to be on a budget.

I do have a few questions though (seems like that's all I ever have!), not sure if anyone can answer them but here goes anyway:

  • On some eBay listings I've seen for the door controllers they say it's specifically a LHD or RHD part.  Does this mean I can only use RHD parts or can the others be recoded via VCDS (as I recall there is an option under coding for RHD for the door controllers)?
  • On the same theme, do the door mirrors have to specifically be for RHD market or would it be a non-issue if I used my own mirror glass (which obviously differs between LHD and RHD)?
  • Finally, VCDS shows my current door controllers to be "M" versions, which from what I can find on the 'net appears to be the first of the GEN3's, albeit they are only "MIN" and will need replacing with a "MAX" version.  If they are GEN3 then I guess I'll need an "N", "Q" or later version but I don't know for sure -- is there any way to tell whether it's definitely GEN3?

Thanks!

Damien

    M are Gen 3 min spec

    ETKA has two separate sections for LHD and RHD versions, the final part of the part numbers are not the same[/list]

      Is the "full" part number on any of the parts you bought?  The reason I ask is because if it's not it could just be a case of parts pre-programmed for a specific market (LHD or RHD)?

      Finnaly fitted a new drivers control module and the drivers mirror now folds  :pomppomp:  :pomppomp:

      Ordered 1K0 959 701 N Z72

      VW delivered the replacement part 1K0 959 701 AG Z0X £177 + VAT

      Just got to resolve the passenger mirror which doesn't appear to hold its position even when moving by hand  :surprised:

      Congrats!  :congrats:

      I'm still trying to source the control modules for mine :( £274  (both sides inc vat) seems a little much for me so I hope I don't have to resort to buying from VW

      I have fitted the mirrors now & have the ambient lighting working but not the folding option (thanks to mortygttdi for trying) . My current controllers wouldn't accept it - even tho they have the part no 1K0 959 701 N (but no Zxx no. after it). Currently I'm driving around with no door cards on like some kind of stripped out racer!!

      So which part no. should I be looking for?  1K0 959 701 N Z72 or 1K0 959 701 AG Z0X? Any chance you could post a photo of it, which the part nos on? Do you know if 1K0 959 701 N Z77 would work? Cos there's one on ebay at the mo [ebay]200472863628[/ebay]

      Cheers

      No photos I'm afraid as the door card is back on

      1K0 959 701 AG Z0X was on the module and on the VAG box, but thats not listed in ETKA which is why I ordered ordered 1K0 959 701 N Z72

      1K0 959 701 N Z77 won't do it comes up with 6XG = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable/heated, its missing the electrically  foldable option

      where as 1K0 959 701 N Z72 comes up with 6XQ = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated

      Whereas the older Gen 2 modules did everything, they have split up the Gen 3 into more individual  options

      Cheers thanks for that. My quest continues!

      So what about the passenger side is that 1K0 959 702 N Z72 then?

      Cheers
