Vanilla GTI
« on: July 24, 2024, 07:19:44 pm »
Made a lot of posts and never actually introduced my GTI. Got it in November last year. It’s a 2008 4door manual with little to no options which was my goal so I could work on it myself.

First I went to solve some mechanical ⚙️ stuff before I went into any upgrades.
Did the cam chain, timing belt and the thermostat and changed all of the fluids.

At this point I had the car remapped but I wasn’t happy with the tune so I’m going to get a custom tune in the next couple of weeks.
I’m planning on keeping the car OEM + and keeping it forever!

Wanted to go down the Michelin path but I managed to get a set of Dunlop Sportmax tyres for really cheap and couldn’t pass the opportunity so took those and got a full alignment

Bought a set of Depo headlights, happy how they look, not so happy about the light output. Will be going down the OEM BiXenon route next year

Just did a remap. Not sure if I should be happy, but it was a really hot day.

Recently got myself a 🎁 and installed a non res Milltek catback. Really happy how it looks.

This afternoon had some time to add some crackles and pops at around 3500rpm just to spice things up a bit haha 😛

Hallo!

Good job with this MK5, paint looks excellent!

So you tuned the pops? Did it worth? I have mixed feelings with that mood. Also the exhaust... maybe you have a video with the sound?

I'll make a couple of videos. Not sure if you are asking if it works or is it worth it haha. It does work but it's more like a burble tune since the car still has the series car. I do my own tunes and I didn't went all crazy just a bit. And with the exhaust I'm really happy just enough sound and not annoying.

Yes the question was if the result was good enough, I had the opportunity to drive GOLF 8 R and listened also the MK7 GTI CS and I like the "unexpected" pops while a deceleration but for the MK5 that I hear.. the "pops and bangs" are different/too much haha.

Haven't posted in a while. I refreshed the front suspension a bit. I had a clunk noise that was driving me crazy 🤣 and unfortunately didn't find a culprit 🤣. New tie rod ends, wheel bearings, dust shields, control arms where I swapped the SuperPro poly bush and the front right CV axle since the seal was leaking it didn't make much sense putting back the rusty old one in.

And as it always is with these cars a subframe bolt decided to snap so I replaced the subframe part as well.

In the summer I'm probably going to try out some coilovers and I was thinking if anyone has improved any clunking with installing the dead color kit?

Here is the requested video. It sounds a lot better in person though.
