Stage 2 Clutch Recommendation
« on: August 07, 2024, 02:36:42 pm »
As title says, what clutch should I buy for a 260-300hp range?

I'll be running an Irish stage 2 for now (235hp) but possibly I'll go K04 in the future, so I'll need a clutch that can handle a little more power.

Not looking to spend a fortune as it's not a daily driver, but I don't want a heavy race clutch or something.

Cheers  :happy2:

My old Edition 30 with English stage 1 (310bhp/404nm) had a stock clutch with no slipping (they have k04) in the time I had it. As far as I'm aware the K03 and K04 cars have same clutch?

If you need an upgrade from that - TTRS kit from Decimal Tenths I'd buy if I was you. https://decimaltenths.co.uk/product/ea113-2-0-tfsi-tt-rs-o-e-genuine-clutch-kit-conversion/

I have a full Sachs x-tend kit in mine, not a Sachs Performance kit. It's rated to hold more torque than an OEM clutch but still isn't enough.

Currently the car should be putting down somewhere around 440nm of torque and this brand new clutch got worn out quite a bit in just under a year. If I do a pull all the way to 200, then stop, I can smell the clutch even 5 minutes after, so it's definitely slipping.

I'd probably pick the Sachs Performance kit, rated for 550nm if you want to go K04. https://www.sachsperformance.com/en/clutch-kit/performance-clutch-sachs/performance-clutch-kit-001422-999502j

EDIT: So looking back at it, there's some oil dripping from between the gearbox and the engine, which is most likely coming from behind the flywheel as there's a seal there. When I had my buddy do the clutch he said he doesn't want to replace it since it's not leaking, even tho I had bought the part. Now it's leaking so there's a chance some of that oil is getting on my clutch, hence why it smells burns after flooring it. Or I could be completely off and it's indeed a clutch that isnt able to put down the power.
