mk5 GTI car has a rattling sound

(1/1)

timharvey:
Hello, The mk5 GTI has a rattling sound when I release the clutch when the car is at low speed. The sound is very clear and easy to recognize. But when the car reaches a speed of over 45km/h, the rattling sound disappears.

The phenomenon seems to be and I want to know where the cause comes from. Thank.

Off your description it sounds like the DMF is on its way out, so might as well do a full clutch change at the same time.

ZoliWorks:
Yep, flywheel is gone, needs replacing. While at it, do a clutch kit too (pressure plate plus disc) rather than doing it again in the future and paying twice for getting the gearbox off-on.

It is something you can do on your driveway as I did it a couple of years ago........but the GTI box is bloody heavy.

It surprised me, as I also did my wife's Mk5 1.6 6 speed, and that box must have been half the weight LOL
