« on: September 09, 2024, 10:47:44 pm »
Hi, pretty much what the title says, in the market for a MK5 GTI around £3,000 to £5,000 around the 100k - 160k mileage mark.

any ideas what to look out for?

Thanks

PCV valve update
Split DV
Rusty Arches/sills/boot
Cam chain/tensioner/adjuster
Carbon cleaned valves
Jerking/juddering when putting foot down = replacing coil packs/sparks/possibly injectors
Cam follower replacement
Cam belt interval change
Mechatronics for DSG cars
Oil pick up pipe/strainer

then the usual stuff:

Check MOT history to see how well maintained it has been
Brakes, CV boots etc etc

Besides what has been said before, if the car has been sitting for a while, check the rear calipers cause on the mk5 generation they like to get stuck and you'll have to change them.
