MK5 Gti Road Noise Best Tried & Tested Ways To Improve?
« on: October 12, 2024, 10:23:18 am »
Hello new member here ive just bought a mk5 Gti Golf 3 door and ive been searching through your site and could not find any definitive answers or updates to how everyone go on with quietening down there mk5 Gti. (mostly found old posts from 2012 lol)

my biggest questions are as follows

1. Is dynamatting the boot area etc worth it? and is dynamat still the best product to use or has there been better technology since?

2. Whats the best tyre to get for good grip but still being nice and quiet? (would love to hear other mk5 gti owners tried and tested opinions on what really helped quiet there cars down)

i am currently looking for a set of 17 inch monzas as my car has 18 inch on it atm

thanks for any help given  :notworthy:

I can tell you what tire ISNT quiet: Vredestian ultrac vortii+. My winter tires are quieter than this!

As far as soundproofing, you can probably go with anything. I use STP (Standartplast). I've done my door panels on my old one but haven't gotten around to doing this car yet and probably wont till summer. I use 3 layers. STP silver for vibration absorption, STP aero 6 for thermal insulation and some generic sound absorption foam for the door inner panels. The first 2 go on the door outer panels.

Since I've only done the doors, not the entire car, cant say if it really makes a sound difference, but what it does is reduce vibrations by a ton. Like before if I had my speakers on medium, all the exterior panels, interior panels, mirror covers would vibrate. After? almost no vibrations. This car has an amp and a 10 speaker audio package so it's a lot worse. I can hear the door panel rattling when it touches the window glass.
