Cam Adjuster data in VCDS help

(1/2) > >>

mjmallia:
I did my chain, tensioner and adjuster yesterday mainly due to a worn adjuster which was grooved out by the rings. I took before and after screenshot of groups 91 and 93

Before

After

But noticed that my duty cycle of the N205 solinoid block 2 of group 91 never settles in the low figures like i have seen on later TFSI's (mine is an early AXX) at hot idle testing before or after they are about the same...fluctuated upto mid 50's before the chain was done.

I have no error codes and it drives fine.

I have unplugged the cam adjuster solinoid during this testing and block 4 of group 91 goes up to 27.5KW/28KW and block 3 of group 93 for phase position remains a zero.

Am I a tooth out on the belt or something.....or worrying about nothing.

mjmallia:
I have cleaned the solenoid inside and out using a 9v battery to activate it, but it was very clean and about 6 years old.

Also took out the cam sensor, and that was clean too.

I have read that the duty cycle of a cam adjuster solenoid between 45 and 70 is a middle/off stage....so maybe everything is good and it does not need to adjust anything. I dont know LOL

mjmallia:
Researching the hell out of this LOL

It seems that the duty cycles control the oil flow in the solenoid.

less than 50% retards timing
more than 50% advances
50% locks the timing without adjustment

I believe I am all good then, unless someone corrects me  :happy2:

Seems like a good result there  :happy2:

I wouldn't worry about the solenoid duty cycles. So long as the target angles are met, all is good in the world  :drinking:

mjmallia:
Thanks mate. Just wanted that confirmation  :happy2:
