Roof lining - Done
« on: December 04, 2024, 11:38:23 am »
After I thought I had got away with it … the dreaded roof liner sag appeared around the rear convenience lights. A subtle amount of contact adhesive just wasn't holding it and as you know its like a dust bowl in there  :signLOL:

So with a heavy heart I decided to bite the bullet and seek professional help. Enter a local car upholsterer and a much lighter wallet. The match isn’t perfect but sitting in the car you would never know. The material was as close as we could find and has a backing as well. The actual roof liner was undamaged and just needed cleaning up. Its a fantastic job and I also replaced the thin electrical ribbon that runs around the headliner as the older one was brittle and the vanity lights in the visors weren’t working, never noticed. I used this part 1K0971100G which also fits MK6 cars. So I am good for another 10 years!  Heres a few pics.

Cheers
Rip

Nice work. I've just acquired my Mk5, the headlinings out and I'm in the process of stripping off all the rubber backing and glue residue! If you don't mind sharing, how much lighter is your wallet? P.S my door cards are next on the hit list!

You thinking of replacing the material on the door cards? Would love to do mine alcantara. Is there any help pages/videos for this?
I’m attempting my headlining next year when the weather changes

I don’t mind … it is what it is … 500 all in and they had it for 3 days. I “was almost” going to have a go myself but getting the right glue, space and skill was a bridge too far. Let a professional do it. Its an excellent job and as I am keeping for now its worth it.

Fair enough, bit to much for my wallet, but you get what you pay for right?! I'll see how I get on DIY, I have the luxury of space and time. Thanks for part number for wiring, might come in handy that.

Looks like a nice job! Can you give details of the company that did it?

Hukes car trimmers.. they have a Facebook page which is easy to get to... however they have a very long waiting list of jobs (almost 4 to 5 months), I waited almost 3 months to get it done. I know it was a ton of money but its all relative with these cars. I still have wings to do which is my next big job and again that's going into the professionals. Takes time to do some of these things but I was seriously impressed with these trimmers, perfectionists! Cant recommend them enough.

Thanks for the info!  Main thing is its done well and lasts.  I'm going to try glueing mine myself but don't expect it to be permanemt fix due to all the foam/dust on headliner tray. Might try these guys if / when goes again.
