Dreaded Engine Knock
« on: February 11, 2025, 05:17:17 pm »
Had my car only short while but it's developed a knocking sound, don't have the area to investigate myself but from the mileage (103k) and scoping forums I was given a few suggestions at what it could be

Took it to a garage today and they've done an investigation basically said it's not good news, they believe there is two knocks and have quoted up to £4-5k to get this fixed. Basically issues around the timing/valves/pistons

Would I be better looking at getting a refurbished engine for them to install?

No not yet

I'm incredibly undecided what to do, flipping between selling it and getting another car or doing some work on it myself, such as replacing the cylinder head with a new one with new valves etc either built for me or building it myself from the parts.

But that would then leave the second knock which I heavily suspect is the DMF still
