I used to be a fairly regular poster here when I had my Edition 30; that’s long gone but about 18 months ago I bought a 2006 5 door GTI from a friend who’s owned it from new. I have all the service documents, the original bill of sale and order with VW and this car has all the options VW offered at the time - apart from bucket seats I think. The original owner wasn’t especially concerned about cosmetics so the car has suffered the odd knock and graze which haven’t been attended to or those that have aren’t terribly well finished. No matter, I use the car as intended and it’s been great. It’s been totally reliable save a starter motor and I’ve made a few upgrades and recently refurbished the original alloys and treated them to new Good Year F1 tyres.
But, despite a cambelt change at 112K miles and regular oil changes - it’s now got 126K miles it suffered a catastrophic timing chain failure last week and I now believe the engine is toast.
Wondering if anyone has a good engine for sale please?
I understand I can replace my BWA with a BYD and upgrade to a K04 turbo - as I had on my previous Edition 30 - but more costly too.
