New member edition 30 questions
« on: March 15, 2025, 08:09:13 pm »
Hi all been reading the forum for a while but now registerd, I have had my edition 30 gti since Sept 24 last couple of weeks have noticed a slight hesitation under load for a second or two then off it goes doesn’t do it all the time only very intermittent , also noticed a slight increase in fuel consumption, car isn’t driven hard came across a thread relating to coil pack campaign just wondering if this is still a thing as my car is a 07 edition 30 dsg on 131k so unsure as to weather vw would still entertain this, will check park numbers on my coils tomorrow, car is also mapped with bluefin

Thanks for any info guys

Also an Edition 30 owner since last July!

The symptoms you've described are classic VAG engine symptoms - probably best to work through the cheapest possible fixes first:

Spark plugs
Check cam follower that runs the high pressure fuel pump isn't damaged and replace anyway for peace of mind
Check rocker cover gasket isn't leaking oil down the spark plug tubes - I'm replacing mine this weekend for that issue
Check for vacuum leaks, break booster pipes etc.  There are o'rings in the vacuum pump that can cause issues, I replaced these recently and cured my cold start problems (Have a look on ebay for o'ring kits, because VW would have you buy the entire vacuum unit to replace some rubber - scumbags.)
Coil packs
Injector clean/replacement and inlet carbon clean

Just a process of working through the various mk5 GTI niggles, good luck!

Here is a vacuum pump seal kit - I got mine from ebay, but this one looks good.  Easy job to replace, just watch some youtube vids - This thread has a video in: https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,134665.0.html

The vac pump seals are an easy job, but be really careful around the thin hose that's coming off the top hose of the radiator by the vacuum pipe. I barely touched it, literally brushed against it and it snapped off. I panicked thinking it would be a special order, phoned TPS straight away they said it would have to come from Germany, so then on the off chance phoned the motor factors we usually use. It cost £8 roughly, got it the same day luckily. So I would just get one anyway just in case.

Thanks for the info mate much appreciated will look into this as I have a list of jobs to get through but looking to get this hesitation sorted, most of the time the car does run great just randomly has that slight hesitating like a stutter then away it goes, also need to get my thermostat swapped as temp drops from 90 if doing anything other than town driving aswell thanks again

There always seems like there's jobs to be done on these cars. The thermostat is a priority.

Aw tell me about it mate never only had mine since September and done front wheel bearings front brakes drop links, had a breakdown in that time aswell and managed to save the ecu had water in it gave it a good clean and dryed out and mega sealed it back up and no issues since then with that thermostat be done when I’m servicing it doesn’t look to bad a job to be fair
