Intermittent Starting Issues - N205 Solenoid
« on: Yesterday at 03:14:52 pm »
Problem:
Having some random starting issues. After driving for a while and leaving the car parked for about an hour, it sometimes struggles to start. Importantly, this only happens intermittently, maybe 4x over the past 8 weeks.
   •   It either tries to turn over and then cuts out,
   •   Or sometimes doesn’t turn over at all - the same sort of sound when a        battery is flat.
   •   The EPC light comes on when it happens, but doesn’t stay on. One started it is not on.

What I know so far:
I had a VCDS scan done, and it showed:
   •   Fault with the N205 solenoid.
   •   P0300 code (random/multiple misfire detected).
Mechanic said it could either be a faulty N205 solenoid or a possible timing chain issue.

Looking for:
   •   Anyone who’s had similar issues.
   •   Any advice on whether it’s more likely to be the solenoid, timing chain, or something else.
   •   Just want to avoid throwing loads of money at the wrong thing!

The car generally runs fine. Theres an occasional rough idle etc, but seems to find itself back to normal after.

Sorry I’m no expert but have you got vcds/OBDeleven as you can check the timing chain for tolerance.
