Noisy ed30 engine when warm?!?!
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:37:18 pm »
Hi all,
please help! My Ed 30 is noisy on tick over when warm. Sounds like a bassy noisy hydraulic tappety noise. Best heard from under the car behind the front wheels. I know the injectors are usually noisy and I have considered cam tensioner but this sounds more sinister. It almost seems to transmit the noise through the exhaust. Car seems to pull fine, no erratic Rickover and no blue smoke and no ecu faults. Although the mechatronic gizmo is failing and is due to be replaced under the warranty. Shes done 13k and is run on optimax. Any ideas? :stupid:

It had a second service on 10th feb this year. I mainly do short journeys. I do think the tensioner is noisy too but can't covince the vw stealers in Coventry as they couldn't hear it. I was concerned when my sister ( who isn't really into cars) said 'have you bought a diesel?' are you thinking along the lines of a blocked oil feeder somewhere Steve? All I can say it seems to come from the bottom end of the engine :stupid:

how's the mk6? :driver:

When you say camchain, as in a metal chain similar to a bike? I say this because I questioned this at vw and was told that the belt is toothed rubber and not metal one or is there two drive belts and I've got the wrong end of the stick?  :stupid:

.........i'm at work & can't remember off the top of my head but i paid extra for it on top of the 3 month one from the gargae.Had to fight hard tho as they said '' it was a breakdown " warranty & the car had technically not broken down. I came back with i don't expect a few hundred quid bill after having the car 2 weeks & you having done the pre-sale checks etc & told them if i got no joy i was off to trading standards.Soon changed there mind then.   :happy2:

Dont all TFSI's sound a bit tappety at idle, especially cold? I thought it was the injectors?
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?
