DIY servicing advice

After some advice – pls be gentle ;-)

Hi fellas - been a long time lurker on here but never feel have anything very poignant to post :ashamed:

Basically It's now been a year since I bought my golf gti & the 1st mot is due & I intend to service the car also

The car goes in tomorrow to the ford garage my dad works at for the mot, I’ll be taking the opportunity to change the oil whilst I can get it on the lift
(tried with ramps at home but front splitter is far too low)

It’s on longlife service plan & approaching 31k – I’ve done 6k this year (cycle to & from work before you ask!) The service records say it’s due next service at 37k

I want to change the oil & filter & air filter. I’ve changed the pollen filter recently as the screen was being a biatch to clear. I bought 5 litres of  5w 30 Comma fully synthetic oil, oil filter & sump plug crush washer but after browsing here I’ve seen people advising against comma oil. Is it really going to be that bad for my engine? I’ve not seen any other bad words said apart from on vw forums.

I’ve used Castrol edge from the main stealer to top it up since I bought the car.

So I guess I just would like confirmation that the oil will be fine ( I’ll be changing it every 6 months from now on) & whether anything else needs doing at this time?

Cheers

Martin

as long as the oil confirms to the VAG standards - usually located on the back of the oil - you should be fine.
