Those who run Monza reps...
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:38:42 pm »
...Did you use the original wheel bolts that came with your Mk5 GTI?

I've got some 18" Monza shadow reps to fit and want to make sure they'll be safe and secure on the OEM locking wheel bolts + nuts. I've had a wheel sheer off of my first car due to a bad wheel setup and don't want to make that mistake again  :smiley:

Thanks  :innocent:
Pete

Don't think you should use the ''factory'' wheel bolts with reps mate. Did you get the reps new ?.If so most are supplied with the correct bolt. :happy2:
ED35. Standard factory condition.

Have a look at the bolt hole in the replica wheel. If the seat is straight (taper), don't use the VW bolts, if it's curved (radius), then do  :happy2:

The bolt hole at first look seemed as though it was flat, but it appears there's a little curved ridge.
I've done my best to capture it on my LG Renoir which is 8MP but it's not the best at close up pics;

You can just see the ridge slightly but I'm not sure if it's enough? It's something I want to be clear cut about, following my previous experience.

Thanks chaps  :smiley:

They're taper cut so don't use the standard VW radius bolts. Get some new bolts  :happy2:

Thanks Garth.

Tbh I'm gonna get shot of them, realised I could've got a genuine set for the price anyway and I really don't want the hassle of finding bolts that'll fit, plus the cost.

I presume the OE 17" Monza bolts will fit perfectly with the 18" Monza II's?

Thanks again bud. This is one I wanted to be safe in the knowledge of and not take a gamble, luckily it only cost me a free Oz Super Turismo, a free recovery ride and a free Escort 1.6D for 3 days before  :laugh:

Cheers GH too  :happy2:
