Coil pack gone!
« on: April 13, 2010, 12:43:52 pm »
Hi all
Had a coil pack go on mine this weekend.
28,000 on the clock
Anybody else's gone and at what sort of mileage.
Just one of those things I suppose, very common on all modern cars, due to emissions, needing a powerful spark.
Dead easy to do other than getting off the engine cover! Why are the grommets so robust, it took me and the RAC man to get it off without breaking it!
Cheers

I lost a pack around that mark, and then another two at maybe 60k. No trouble for ages though.

I managed to get 50k before one let go. I then got a nice set of RS4 ones from the USA ( same but has a nice red touch to them) even delivered they cost half price than from a dealer. :scared:

They look identicle to the normal ones just for colour. Not sure about reliabilty, has anyone heard of RS4 owners with coil pack probs? They might be better.

How do you diagnose a failed coilpack?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

My friends 1.8 20vt just had coilpack failure and that was running really poorly.  Misfiring, sounded like a flat 4 on tickover, smelt a bit rich. Not experienced it on tfsi
