Well, at first they said they suspected it was the mechatronics and/or flywheel, they agreed to contribute 33% towards the final bill. But when the gearbox was out, they said the flywheel was ok and didn't need replacing. They just changed the mechatronics unit, I paid £980.10.

Drove away and the clunk noise was still there in 2nd and 4th so took it straight back. They took readings etc from ECU and gearbox and sent it to VW, they come back saying the car had been tampered with etc and that the map was causing the issue. I told them the map is not currently on the car and hasn't been for the past few months (and the new mechs wiped the DSG map anyway), in the end they decided it was the clutch packs. I asked if they would put my old mechs unit back in and reimburse me as that was not the cause of the issue, they insisted there was actually a fault with my mechs unit so would've needed replacing, I don't know if I believe that TBH but not worth the hassle trying to argue that... I had to pay for the parts but not the labour, worked out about another £320.

Sorry to read you've slightly shafted with the mechs Mandy, if only someone diagnosed the issue properly in the 1st place...But in saying that, they have forfeited most of the labour charge in doing so..

Question now is, your need to properly wear in those new clutch packs with some subtle power mods ;-)

Thanks Robin (where have you been hiding?!), it's reminded me that the car in standard form is actually very nice to drive.

Hi Ryan, it was good meeting you at JKM. Plenty enough power in a standard Ed, you should know that... Have you been brave enough to try S mode yet?

The forum was mostly down when I did try to visit it but seems more stable at the moment.

The Mk5 GTI/Ed30 is a truly a great car even when standard  :happy2: - Did we really need to spend all that money on mods? I blame this forum! Absolutely no regrets here though.

My edition30 has now been traded in to make way for the R. It was a fantastic car, the best Golf I've owned by far, I just wanted something a little newer and this one came up at the right price and spec, plus I got a reasonable part exchange value. I rang up and left a deposit over the phone rather quickly, beat someone to it by about 5mins. Me and Romany will be sharing the R and his red GTI. On Sunday we drove up to Suffolk to pick up the R, it was quite a long journey but well worth it.

The spec is...

- Rising Blue
- DSG
- 5dr
- 36k miles
- 1Owner
- Leather interior
- 19" Talladega wheels
- Cruise control
- Front/Rear Parking Sensors
- Winter Pack

I think that's about it... In the original ad it did say it had a reversing camera which it doesn't, we're currently awaiting an outcome from the dealer on that. It's had 4 brand new Conti tyres put on prior picking it up so should last a while, I hope.

Like that! I remember talking to you at one of JKM's RR days last year about this. Nice to see that you got what you've obviously been promising yourself for some time.  :pomppomp:
