Just purchased my mk5 GTI couple of days ago and thought its always a good idea to register somewhere.
I've got a 55 plate 63k black GTI.
First thoughts, i like it BUT (and its a big BUT) id still have my Focus ST over it. I have owned a Focus ST for about a year and absolutely loved it, it possesses good boy-ish charms and always turns heads, where as the golf is more subtle. The power and torque on the ST is bloody fantastic but the GTI is more linear. So overall id still have the ST. On the positive side the GTI will out handle the ST any day and i was surprised how quick i could take some corners/roundabouts without any roll (on private roads mind you lol). Other main thing is i only got 22mpg average on the ST and on the GTI i get a constant 30-32mpg, thats excellen for my 40 mile commute everday. Last thing is am impressed with the gadgets on the GTI. Overall fantastic car.
