By having the bolts on the top doesn't it lessen the risk of losing them if they come loose? Though you'd have problems if loose anyway!

Not from coming lose but to protect from damage on humps/holes etc. Also as they need to remain adjustable they would be less likely to suffer effects from dirt/grime/salt etc.

robin has a fair point.  if the bolt is from above and the nut falls off, you still have a bolt securing the ball joint.  if it cameup from below,  it could potentially drop clean out :surprised:

Hence whilst they use the lock plate and standard gti's dont

I could be just talking rubbish as have no proof or experience on audi arms :laugh:
