Hot air getting into the cabin when the aircons turned off?
« on: March 16, 2010, 04:11:43 pm »
Does anybody know if there's a seperate intake for the air which is used bythe climate control. The problem I'm having is when driving along with the climate switched off somehow hot air is still coming through the vents on the dash. Iknow its not being pushed through by any fans as the flow of hot air is dependant on the car moving forward. I've checked all the pipes I can get my hands too but everything seems connected. It only happens when the engines warmed up and the climates switched off and driving along so the hot air has to be coming from the engine bay somewhere. Now really confused as to what it can be.

If I turn mine off, I still get heat coming through the vents too. If I put the a/c to cold then turn it off I get cold air, I just always thought it doesn't ever really turn off

Exactly...same with the cold too, could there be some sort of diverter flap in the system thats sticking? The easy answer is just to leave the climate running but with the price of petrol about to rocket again, every little bit helps with the economy and who wants hot air in your face when you've got the window down enjoying the sunshine. 8)

Do you get it when the vents are closed?

I get it when I put my foot down hard - warm air starts to waft in through the vents. I know a few other cars do this but normally not noticeable.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I must admit I never close the vents but I'll try them closed tomorrow and see what happens. I just thought if the climate was turned off it would shut everything off but maybe not. thanks for a bit of common sense
