car phone cradle has left screw holes!
« on: April 24, 2010, 08:44:42 pm »
my dash if ruined! ruined I tells ya.

any of you fine people know a decent way of covering the aftermark made by removing a car kit cradle that has been screwed into the dash?

I can't really see it but my passengers can, and it does my head in.

cheers

Some kind filler and a dash repeair kit?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

 :sad1:

I was kind of hoping there was a panel I could screw into the holes that are there, a small metal thing or something, meh

I think you could be right!

A pic of the dash would be helpful.

If its next to the glove compartment you may be lucky. The lower left section of the dash complete with glovebox comes off and you can buy a replacement from a breaker. Come to think of it it probably wont be that much new.

If its the lower part on the passenger side that goes around the glove box then that part is indeed separate - i've just bought it for mine as my car has the OEM cradle on it. Replacement dash part has cost me £26 - Bargain i say !!

Most parts in this area arent much tho

I've used one of these before on my Escort Cosworth, they did an absolute top job and you'd never know the car had had a Mobile Phone cradle installed.  :happy2:

Whereabouts in the country are you?
Cheers,

Wayne

Believe it or not, that is quite an easy repair to do yourself.

Buy a leather and vinyl repair kit off ebay (about £12). That will repair the actual holes really well. For the dents, you can do a couple of things. One, is inject something like silicone under the surface to pad out the dent, the other is to take the whole panel off and push it out from behind.

Give it a go yourself before you call in a pro. You're not going to make it much worse if you bodge it up
