I might need a clutch soon
« on: April 25, 2010, 09:31:24 pm »
My 2007 ED30 has almost 29k, it has a switchable 305bhp GIAC remap which is alot of fun  but I think the clutch now struggling to cope. It's like the clutch doesn't always 'catch' the gears, so the extra power isn't always there.

4th gear isn't so bad but the lower gears don't catch anywhere near as often, and i've felt the clutch slip a few times.

The car was mapped pretty much from new so I don't think 29k is a bad mileage considering the speed of the thing   :driver:

So would I be best buying genuine VW parts? Flywheel too?  Would a fault reader show codes regarding the clutch?

The car is OK in stock mode, though the extra bhp is obviously putting extra demands on the clutch.

Cheers

quotes vary a lot, 4-6hrs seems the norm, but I'd pay a bit more to get someone I trust

I'll use the same place that changed the clutch, flywheel and diff on my Civic type R. £380 labour, about 8 hours.

Unless the BYD engine needs some sort of specialist tools?

Rtech are too far from me, but I like their fully fitted prices.

Just dropped the car off, will wait and see what prices they come back with for standard and uprated prices.

If you could give me a quote before I go back to the garage that would be great.
