Highline so very rare?
« on: April 28, 2010, 09:36:59 pm »
I've looked at 4 mk5 gtis this week and not one of them had a highline comp.

Originally I was adament that they should be in the 'absolute must' pile, but im having my doubts now that im actually going to find one with the highline fitted.

Are they really this rare or had a bit of bad luck?

Im slightly dubious about getting one retrofitted as i've heard they are about 200/300 quid fitted, plus not too keen on the idea of someone taking a drill to my dashboard.

No drill required on the dash board, just two T20 screws and the clocks come out  :happy2:

Also depends what you want it for, if its for the extra functions you can get a VCDS cable which will cover all it's functions and more.

Most people who buy a new car dont even spot it in the tiny options brochure, its normally people who have had Golfs before who will spec it.  :happy2:

Highline was a £50 extra. IMO they should have specced all GTIs or at least all ED30s with them.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I will never understand why that and MFSW don't get specced that much for the money!  :stupid:

You are right though, these options do seem few and far between on the S/H market!

ive got highline but its not a show stopper if the car your looking at doesnt. Once you have played with the menu's once or twice thats the novelty wears off. The MFSW however i do like lots!

If you have the RNS or Skoda Bluetooth then the extra functionality is worth it

I've got it in mine and to be fair, it should be standard in a car of that nature.

I'd much rather a MFSW than highline.  :sad1:

I had the same problem when I was looking to buy one. I was buying from VW, and it was part of my "must haves" but eventually found one being sold private with the highline comp. Just keep looking, they're out there  :happy2:

What happened there, shouldn't you be steering him towards VW

..........he is only 17 mate.Wants a GTI but no way can he afford insurance on one. I found a mint 68k mk3 GTI on the net for £1650.00. Insurance TPFT was £7500.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. He has had a look at a couple of polo's but the corsa sxi hasa few sporty bits on & you know what there like at 17.
He has promised himself a GTI when he gets a bit older & has built up the ncb, fingers crossed.
