Michelin Pilot Sport 3

So what's the replacements for PS2, given that PSS don't come in 225/40/R18 sizes.

I run PS2's on the CK's and PS3's on the TD's, bought the PS3's when they were being marketed as the PS2 replacement. True they aren't as good as the PS2's particularly in the wet, but they are still a good allround predictable tyre. I've done plenty of road miles and 4 trackdays on them and they have never really bit me on the arse, apart from last Wednesday night when I span a full 360 on the motorway slip road :driver: , but that was more down to ice and my stupidity :smiley:

That I can't answer! I was just told by someone at Michelin that the PSS was the proper replacement for the PS2. I haven't had the tyre size issue, so i guess in your case the PS3 must be!

The PS2 and the PSS are 'hyper-sports' tyres. With the greatest respect, and as much as we love 'em, a Golf GTI is not a hyper-sports car! :P
I honestly don't think Michelin 'intended' for hyper-sports tyres be used on hot hatches - which is why they've restricted sizes of PSS to more 'exotica' and genuine high performance cars, and left the PS3 to fill the void left by their previous 'hot hatch' tyre - the Pilot Exalto. :smiley:

Someone posted the other day that michelin confirmed 225/40/r18 will be available in none XL by March. The suggestion is that XL will follow shortly after
