Silver GTI - J5HDR/HDN or similar??
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:17:14 pm »
.....On the back of a lowloader coming into the top end of Bognor Regis, looks like it had been in a ditch.  Wheels didn't look standard, it might of been an Edition 30???

Anyone on here unlucky enough to crash today?? Car on the way to Peter Cooper paintshop perhaps??

The reg could be wrong, but Im sure it started J5???

unfortunately oli it was me   :sad1:

wasn't planning on mentioning it until i know the full outcome.. but i took it off the road last weekend on route to visiting me mam
thankfully only myself involved, police and ambulance attended and no further action was taken

car is in a bit of a state though and the mechanic's initial feelings is it will be a write off, wee bit gutted as this was my first ever crash and i really loved my ed30  :sad1:

but onwards and upwards now - off car shopping next weekend   :happy2:

Fingers crossed the mechanics initial diagnosis is wrong.

Wet and muddy road with some brand new tyres caused the back end to fly out when going round a bend next thing I'm ploughing into a grass bank and ended up in a ditch...

Body work doesn't look too bad but front end - engine, rad, gear box, suspension, steering rack are all smashed

Will get final reports this week, I would like it back if possible but not looking promissing :sad1:

Didnt u have the quafe diff fitted james?? wonder if that constituted to the back end stepping out?

Im gutted for you, as i know how enthusiastic about your car you were.

Main thing is your ok, your not in any trouble, and if it is a right off, you have some money to splash on a new project

thanks for the kind words all  :happy2:

no diff fitted steve, just those hankook rs2 z212 tyres.. awesome in the dry but in the wet they just let go and there was no warning - i have never experienced anythig like it in the 2 1/2yrs I have owned the car...

anyhow if its not fixable then I will be back in something nice v soon - currently without a car as I wanted it to go to a vw garage so no courtesy car.. and its killing me

Thank Goodness you are ok, James! It was my first thought when Saint Steve txt'd me [Thanks Steve :drinking:].

Until I read this I was seriously considering the Hankook rs2 tyres for summer and trackdays. Did you have the ESP on or off? (please PM if you prefer not to say).

Bad luck James and as others have said the most important thing is that you are ok and nobody else was hurt.

Hope you get everything sorted out as quickly and smoothly as possible.
