Servicing - good price or not?
« on: May 06, 2010, 09:13:14 pm »
OK, my MY05 is coming up to is 30K (T&D) service  :happy2:

Luckily I had the nouse to have the cambelt done last year when I bought the car  :happy2:

Sooo. This is where I'm at. 30K service, comprising of -

Basic Oils service + (free Health check)
Potential pollen filter.

£137 for normal oils service
£191.89 for T&D service with Long Life Oil.
Potential £25.85 for pollen filter.

South Hereford VW.

Is this pretty good?

Toying with the T&D + Long life oil service. BUT as it gets an oil change regularly, is it worth it?

Thoughts?

Dan

I had an oils service in november 2009 and Vw quoted me the same prices as you:

£137 Normal oil
£191.89 Longlife

They did say that they will price match with other garages in the local area that use genuine vw parts...
So I phoned around various garages and the cheapest I got quoted was £125 for normal, £180 for longlife.

I phoned vw back up and they priced match without even asking which garage etc... I wished I'd said a bit lower but I was expecting them to ask for all the details so they could double check.

I think you should do the same, just phone around and then get them to price match for you  :happy2:

Take a look at this if you are unsure whether to go for Time/ Distance or Longlife.

All depends on how your car is used...

Just had my car at MJ Warner VW in Herts; they charged me £165 for 3yr/20k service and brake fluid change. Very happy with their service and their prices.

Thanks for this - I actually didn't think it was a bad price tbh.

Obviously, I was grinning when they said £137, and less so at £191. So will try to push for a middle-ground price  :happy2:

Glad you got it sorted, seems like a good price too!

Should always get them to price match though, they'll always give in!   :pomppomp:

sweet - not booked it yet. And would prefer a VW stamp, although not essential, as I'm out of VW warranty (got a 3rd party one)...

Will shop around at the start of next week.
