Colour coding?
« on: May 09, 2010, 02:25:35 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm picking up my Black MK5 GTI later this week and can wait. However there are a couple of nasty scratches on the top of the rear bumper that I will be getting sorted fairly soon and it has got me thinking about colour coding the lower section of the rear bumper while the paint shop is at it.. What are peoples opinions on this, should I do it - and has anyone got any colour coded rear bumpers they could upload some images of?

Also, I like the below rear bumper with the cutout left black. Is this piece removable or will the man in the paint show need to get his masking tape out?

When getting this done do you also 'need' to get the side skirts and front splitter done too, as in, does it look stupid unless you get the lot done?

Also what sort of price (as an idea) would you be looking at to get just the rear valance done without the 'cutout'?

Depends on where you go and how cheap your bodyshop is but i would put aside around £4-500 to have the skirts, rear valance and front valance smoothed and sprayed :happy2:

I wasn't thinking of getting everything colour coded, just the rear bumper?
Has anyone got any images of a fully colour coded Gti. If it is black all the better!

Sorry can't help with a black one but here's a few of mine.

Before

After

I have had the lower rear valance done in gloss black and done the same with the lower part of the front spoiler rather than leave them as just the black plastic.

Hope that helps.

Great pics K6nny and  a good job. :congrats:.
How much did that cost and what sort of time scale are we talking for work like that?

I went to chase automotive in Cannock about 3 months ago. Had rear bumper apart from the exhaust part. Side skirts and front splitter sanded, primed and coded for £300. Looks ace now. Though is silver, not black.

Cheers, my mate did the work for me at his bodyshop. Front lower spoiler, side skirts and rear bumper smoothed and painted cost £275 and took about 4 days, although as it was mates rates he was doing it after hours.

That's quite interesting as I'm just up the road from Cannock.  Were you happy with them, i.e. would you let them do it again?

Also, have you got any pics of the work they did?
