Power...where will it end?
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:03:52 pm »
When the Edition 30 originally came out, power was 227bhp. It was soon found to be basically a detuned version of the S3 engine, which had just over 260bhp. Then the tuners started to play and the new level became 305bhp. Developments progressed and each time the boundaries were set at a new high, tuners said that was that and no more. We are now at a point where a K04 car with no mods to the engine can lay claim to in excess of 370bhp, with similar torque.

My question is, without swapping the K04 turbo, how much bhp do we think it is possible to extract from the ED30, with uprated cams, valvetrain, hybridisation of the K04 etc?

Discuss!

Who would know better than you Hurdy lol

I am aiming to modify the car power wise keeping stock turbo and internals and if 370+ is the figure, I'd be more than happy!

Then it's diff time :)

I know im not intelligent when it comes to modding cars, but surely logic wise, anymore than 383bhp (which you have Hurdy) will put too much stress on the turbo ?

You also have bring reliability into this thread too :innocent:

My car hasn't had ANY issues with reliability apart from one coilpack, which all cars can get. Never broken down. Some cars have had issues, but you can expect it when pushing the limits.

i dont think it will be long before someone has broken the 400bhp barrier, if you have a hybrid KO4 with WMI aswell as Cams you are looking at in excess of 400bhp, as has been said this must be near the boundry of a failure of some sort but we are not going to know until the boundry has been crossed, i just hope its not me and also hope it is nothing MAJOR :sad1:

thats possible but only with some sort of octane boosting effect such as WMI or even nitrous.  Wouldnt really want cams though, as i had them on my XR2i and the tick over was horrible

Well I can't really discuss K04 limits, but I do think it's rather what Kev @ Revo once said to me: "Robin, you just have to draw your own line in the sand and try not to cross it".

Also, personally I would always advise leaving some tolerance and head room rather than power-ing to the max. But I'm an older guy and am happy with what I got.

I like rubbing out the lines in the sand on a regular basis.

If we all drew lines in the sand the human race would never get anywhere

....I didn't say I've taken Kev's advice . But, power-wise, I don't seek more for myself.

450bhp. For about ten seconds. then kaput!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
