I was thinking the same thing, I didnt know the S3 had an oil temp sensor.  All very educational!

again back on topic, wrong engine i know but with the .:R32 its stated that its recommended to let the revs settle before driving (about 30 seconds) which is something i have religiously done

that said to be environmentally friendly its better if you dont blah blah

In the past, I must confess to starting a 1.8 Vectra hire car from cold with my hoof to the floor, every morning for a week.

It was a particularly hateful lump of metal and so I showed it no mercy.

funny that, iv often found they glide easily over speedbumps often at 30mph+ no problem

yeah is in the owners handbook, it recommends you let the oil pressure build up in the hydraulic valve lifters - the reason for the noise  

i always wait for the revs to balance before driving off, and never go over 3000rpm until the temp needle is in the middle
