There are others on this forum better placed to answer this than me.
However, from my experience having looked into a replacement DV i believe that changing the standard DV to a Forge one is only really required if you are running increased boost on the car. More boost means more heat, and naturally more pressure, and thus the standard DV can fail.
I believe they both do the same job with the same outcome, just one is more reliable. Could be wrong.
Interesting though that the DV on the edition 30 is situated on the post intercooler side unlike the GTi which has it on the pre intercooler side. Thus, this will help keep temperatures down and help increase life of the standard DV.
I think if you are running figures below 300bhp the DV may cope well, with an obvious reduced lifespan. Perhaps those running stage 2 maps upwards have had their DVs replaced. I'm sure the experienced guys on here can help with this.
