As above got my car booked in at Statllers next week for uprated sachs clutch as am slipping on stage 1 revo, evoms intake & forge dv. I have read in the past to get a new DMF at the same time but Steve @ Statllers told me I dont really need to replace it & people just do it at the same time to be safe/tuners trying to get more money out of people. He said most of the cars he has done inc my mates 365bhp s3 he has just put a uprated sachs clutch with no problems after using the DMF already in the car. He said he will inspect it when he does the clutch & he can tell from looking/moving it also. Do I take the risk then have to pay for more labour if the DMF is fooked afterwards?

So question is how many of you have just done the clutch & left the flywheel?

How many of you have done both?

Advice/Outcome etc would be greatful  :happy2:

arite mate, i just got the sachs clutch fitted along with cover plate, i didnt go for the lightened flywheel due to the horrible noise you get from them, i got steve at statlers to do all my work and drove over 800 miles round trip for him to do it.   He is very good and i would recommend him to anyone.  I left the original flywheel in the car after steve inspected it as it was fine.

I had to replace my DMF as advised by VWR.  They said there was way too much movement in it.  Im going back in a couple of weeks for the pressure plate as I only had the disc fitted at the time. ( the wrong pressure plate came)

Ill let you know what condition my new DMF is in.  I would trust Steves opinion.

I didn't change to an uprated clutch but can confirm my flywheel was in pieces when my clutch was replaced due to slipping.  My mechanic who i trust says that for every 3 clutches he changes on gti's and s3's, he has to change 2 flywheels.  You may be lucky but you wont know until he inspects it.

Hi mate saw your car down there for a few weeks & was talking with steve about it, you got quite abit done didnt you haha. Ye he said he would inspect mine & I should stop worring as I prob wont have to change the DMF. Does yours have revo plus all the mods you got done? have you got a build thread too?

If the clutch isnt slipping you should be fine.  It's the slipping and the heat generated that destroys the flywheel once the clutch goes.  I'm told my clutch looked in good condition and my slipping was down to the flywheel failing :sick:

You can't really tell until it's stripped down,

I bought an uprated SACHS clutch after getting the beginning of clutch slip. When it was all stripped down it was the DMF that needed replacing and since then it has been sweet as a nut (inc 7 laps of the Nurburgring  :evilgrin:).  :happy2:

I have the helix clutch on my ed30 (360bhp).
My DMF was in perfect working order and didn't need replacing.

As soon as its slipped then you know you will need a new flywheel too.. Spending labour and not changing it is just daft.. You may well save the cost first time round, but when it starts slipping again and it takes out your new Sachs bits as a result then its going to get expensive..

I say, do it right, first time.. Then you know you can forget about it..  :smiley:

the OE DMF flywheel can be much cheaper than from VW/Audi, I just got 1 for 250quid all in, puka LUK item just not VW/Audi badged :happy2:

I was in at Statllers the week before Owen to have the same things done as Owen (except the WOT box and a/c cire removal).

If you are going in as deep as you are, its a good chance to fit new release bearing, slave cylinder at the same time ;)

I never fitted the lightened flywheel either. If I got a decent deal on one, I might have, but they are soooooo expensive for more noise and marginal performance gains.

So did you not change the clutch in the end?

The clutch supplied didn't fit do no the clutch is all standard for now.

I say, do it right, first time.. Then you know you can forget about it..  :smiley:

I though you can inspect the DMF to see if a new one is needed? they have just changed the clutch but not DMF on my mates S3 running more power & now no slip what so ever
