Water trapped in rear light cluster..
« on: May 14, 2010, 03:54:53 pm »
 :surprised:

Hi,

As mentioned in my previous post I have recently purchased a very tidy mk5 GTI. There are a couple of niggles which I want to get sorted so the car is completely spot on.

Could anyone advise how best to cure the problem of moisture building up in the rear light cluster. This is only present in the drivers side but does this now mean the sealed unit has been compromised and need to be replaced?

Any suggestions for a cheap solution greatfully received.

Many thanks,

Simon

Hi,

I have removed the unit from the car and dried it out with a hair dryer but there is still some unsightly sediment and water marks on the inside of the lens so I think I will look to swap out the whole unit.

Europarts seem to be selling them for a reasonable £37 unless anyone can offer a better plan....

Take the opportunity to replace them with some nice smoked ed30 / r32 ones  :happy2:

A touch more than £37 however  :sad1:

Have you tried the dealer, or ebay?  Dealers, surprisingly, can be the cheapest for some parts and I would image there are plenty kicking around on ebay.
