Retuning the ED30
« on: May 14, 2010, 08:28:37 pm »
Everyone talks about how the ED30 is a detuned S3 lump. Has anyone retuned back into an S3? And then remapped it?

Any links would be welcome.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

You been at those sweeties again, Jaz?

Why detune (demap) and then remap again?

Indeed why? Unless I don't understand the question? Same engine so have it 230bhp, 265bhp or 300bhp stage one?!

Not detune but upgrade the internals and remap.

The internals are pretty much the same Stealth.

Obvious differences are cams, compression ratio (I think), intercooler and map.

compression ratio is the same, and I think the cams must be.

Out of interest is the DSG gearbox in an S3 and a GTi/ED30 exactly the same?  I assume the clutch is upgraded for the 4-wheel drive S3.

Am i right in saying that the DSG gearbox found in VWs, Audis, Seats, etc. is an Audi originated product?

I was under the impression that the cams were different and the compresion ratio on the S3

The Ed30 engine is NOT the same as the S3 engine . . . this has been thrashed to death, and proven before.

....How much time have you got to read it all? All weekend?

Both 'sides' post some very convincing arguments why they are each correct.

As far as I know, the DSG box of tricks (and therefore clutches) is the same in each of the GTI and Ed30. S3? - I dunno.

Somebody who works for VW/Audi must know the conclusive answer.
