Oh I know that, I mean just the engine. If it's different, how? And how do they both re-map to the same figure? (or am I looking at it too simply?)

I think most might agree that the combination of the power output and the 4-wheel drive system is pretty hard to compete against.   :notworthy:

until you are on the track (in the dry) when the lightness and balance of the ed30 will be superior (power nothwithstanding), all that 4 wheel drive just adds weight and little benefit unless you are either on a slippery surface or your driving style benefits from 4 wheel drive  :wink:

The Ed30 engine is NOT the same as the S3 engine . . . this has been thrashed to death, and proven before.

Also important to remember that a 3 Door Manual ED30 is around 70 Kg lighter than a 5 door, check the stats ! This means approx' 6% better power to weight ratio. Therefore a 5 Door DSG car has a permanent 'extra passenger' weight dissadvantage, simples.

My manual 3 Door has a sunroof, so not as light as it could be, you guys with Manual ED30's 3 Door NO SUNROOF should be chuffed that you have the very best power to weight ratio of the entire GTI range ( including the 'R' with the lardass 4WD and 1521 kG which is an extra 190 Kg over a 3 Door ED30 and a power advantage of only 40 bhp :surprised: ) :happy2:

Figures are all out there if you want to be precise with referencing.

Seems a bit extreme.

Go on the ciruit and do some sessions without a passenger and then with and you will be amazed at the difference, not just speed, the biggest difference is in braking and cornering, you can carry more speed round a corner when lighter. However, on the road you won't really notice much difference (at least I hope) as you won't be driving near the edge of the envelope.

This is why the elise is so effective, in the words of the late grate colin chapman for more performance just add lightness.

I think that Lotus have taken it too far for my taste though - I really don't like them.

yep im sure some of the tuners dissected them and found the S3/ED30/Cupra all the same

the s3 engine is slightly stronger, woopey fooking doo. Doesnt make em anymore powerful though when fettled  :laugh:
