I'm waiting for an updated Mac Mini server, hopefully they'll release one soon! Will be used as my main server for remote connection, Plex, etc.

Until then, I have all the bits and pieces to go with it.......

System comes with 2x 500GB drives installed, will take the system apart and add the following:

Already posted my Vertex 3, which will be the system disk.

1TB WD Scorpio Blue, which I'll install as a second disk.
Should be more then enough considering the Mini will be connected to my NAS as well.

Upgrading from 4GB to 8GB RAM from Apple costs £80.
Will do it myself - £30 for 8GB RAM, and will sell the 4GB I remove!

Although I'll be connecting remotely to the system most of the time I still need a keyboard and mouse for local use:

Finally, a remote to use with Plex....

Now just need to wait for the Mac Mini itself so I can set it all up!!

Will you be going for a Mac Mini Server? Or using one of the aftermarket 2x disc kits?

I'm just going to go for the server (with educational discount lol).
I know you can get the aftermarket kits/cable, but considering its an investment I plan to run for as long as possible, and the CPU is one of the parts that are not upgradable, I want to get the best CPU possible so it will last longer.
I don't need the discrete graphics as it won't be used for gaming etc, and the Intel HD4000 GPU is a pretty good chip anyways!
Been reading over on the MacRumors forums where plenty of people have bought the middle spec Mini and later regret it, saying they should have come up with the extra for the server.

Dilemma I have is that I would want to dual boot it for windows games via the tv. The hd4000 isn't up to that really. For some stuff maybe. Difficult decision. But then, I have my Xbox for that. Ahhh. Server makes more sense, but I already have a time capsule for backups.

When do you reckon there will be a silent update to Ivy bridge?

The HD4000 is still supposed to run pretty good, but for decent gaming you'd want the discrete graphics option.
Since Ivy bridge is already out in the MBPs etc, I don't think it will be too long. I'm hoping for the next month or two. All of the components are there and in use, it's just a matter of sticking them in the Mac Mini now. Since the MBPs are their best sellers, it makes business sense getting them out first I guess.

Time to start improving the handling. :) Thanks to Rob at W8Performance.  :drinking:

First up is the Whiteline WALK kit.

Then a rear AutoTECH roll bar.

Yeah it's a bit more expensive for the 240gb one  :rolleye:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/solidstate/128gbandabove/vtx3-25sat3-240g.html

It has come down a lot though. I paid £400 for it about 12 months ago.

Yeh I remember paying £400 for my 240GB Vertex 2 around 2 years ago!

SSD is the future.... my MBP is ridiculously quick.  :happy2:

I agree My i7 MBA has the 256GB SSD and its crazy fast

100% agree. The best upgrade for the price I have ever done. My ageing Q9550 system is so much snappier now :happy2:

I installed this in April:

Diamond Black 2007 (56) Golf GTI 3Dr DSG ¦ 18" Monza II's ¦ Cruise control ¦ MFSW ¦ Highline ¦ Rear parking sensors ¦ PDT Stage 1 ¦ Forge Twintake ¦ H&R Sport Springs ¦ NQSBBK ¦ R32 Rear bumper ¦ BCS Powervalve Sports R32 style TBE ¦ Valeo LED Rear Lights ¦ Xenon lights with HID kit ¦ DNX521DAB ¦ 12mm Spacers all round ¦

Really need to get myself an SSD, just really put off by the installation! the videos of installing them in a 27" iMac are pretty daunting!
