Mandy it looks like a lightsaber. Nuff said.

I must admit to wielding mine and making lightsaber noises earlier!  :signLOL:

I did that on Saturday night when i got home.

How much was the big telly then?

Looks like it says £1699.99 (Ex VAT) down from £1999.99, I could be wrong though, my eyesight is not what it used to be.

It was indeed £1699.99 but only if you had the £300 off coupon (which i did but still wasn't allowed it  :sad1:)

I wouldnt be buying a new big screen just yet. The 4x HD (Super HD) screens are out, and will be dropping in price over the next few years. Just hoping my 1080p 42" screen lasts me long enough until they are affordable. My friend went to visit Toshiba recently to check out their 55" set and he said it was simply staggering. It has hardware upscaling built into it as well, so with even a BluRay input, it was upscaling to 4x HD. He said it was the most impressive screen he has ever seen.

It also adjusts its 3D picture (which doesnt require glasses) based on where you are sitting in the room, and can track 8 people iirc, and adjust the 3D image accordingly for each person. I want one. Sadly, the £7k price tag is a little out of reach at the moment.

Almost bought the snap on led light. Can you give us a review when youve had a go?

It's very bright and the torch bit is too. Not sure about the magnetic base. Tried it on the side of the fridge and it wasn't strong enough to hold it horizontally.

It will definitely be worthwhile to keep in the car  :happy2:

I got this torch a couple of months ago, it's really good, The magnet is strong enough to hold it horizontal on a central heating radiator & I'm still on the first set of batteries. It's pretty tough also, my son took it to cub camp and it's still working

That no glasses Tosh requires you to keep you head perfectly still throughout the whole movie or the 3D effect disappears. Might be impressive, but it needs some work yet...

Collected a set of 17" Monza's last night. Bargain price, I almost felt guilty taking them off the guy.   Advertised as 'Golf Horseshoe alloyz' on Gumtree.  :stupid:

Oh yeah, appreciate that. I mean, it cant track eye movements yet. It would need a pretty damn high res camera for that.

Like already mentioned, too early to buy into the technology. It has its faults, mainly that they are using the 4K res to direct differing images to the viewer. However, it certainly is an interesting time in TV technology. Once we have native Super HD sources, more compatiblity and a standard that all manufacturers adhere to, as well as making the technology affordable to the masses, it will be worth buying into.

Im holding out on my TV upgrade just yet. HD is the past really in terms of tech. The Japanese had been using HD a long time before we got our grubby mits on it.

The issue will be that HD is already chewing up the bandwidth for the transmitters currently! Sky cheated the system by downgrading the standard format so that their HD channels look better. Freeview HD has much better quality, but the systems behind the scene's will need a major upgrade before much of this can become worth while. Only decent use will be games and blueray IMHO.

Yep, hopefully more frequencies which allow higher bandwidth will be available for this in the future. Or we all go cable, if that will support it.

Something i learned a long time ago is not to "wait for the next big thing" when it comes to technology.

I remember reading somewhere that as soon as you buy a TV/PC/Laptop etc it is already 6 months out of date due to the pace of progression.

I bought a TV a couple of years ago that apparently had the best image quality for an LCD. Even now 2 yrs later everyone that comes to my house and watches it says the picture quality is brilliant. That's with just Sky HD, Blu-ray is even better. Whilst we are on about Sky HD, their HD quality, as mentioned, is dire. Initially i thought my TV was either faulty or set up wrong. I had it set up properly and the guy that did it mentioned that Sky HD is heavily compressed hence the fact i was getting the poor quality image on HD Channels. 720p & 1080i on Sky are nothing like what they should be. No doubt Murdoch's mucka will say it is but it isnt.

These Lentic 4K tv's (lentic is the term currently used for 3D without Glasses) are way off being in most people's budget at the moment unless your first name happens to be Sheikh. I would have quite happily bought that 70" TV, moved the 40" to the Bedroom and enjoyed the hooooooge image for the next 5 years. 2 things stopped me, one being i would be sat too close as our lounge is not wide enough. I could block the patio doors at one end with it but that would upset mine and SWMBO's fung schu. The second thing was SWMBO said no

Seriously if you after a new TV and have a room big enough for the 70" one then get yourself down to costco. They are £2399 elsewhere!

I shall try mine on a radiator then. Maybe the fridge metal was different. :happy2:

Viewin distance plays a huge role when considering tv size. Distance in inches multiplied by 0.58 iirc.

I sit 95" from my screen. So my optimum size is 55" before the HD image gets ruined.
