Thats the trouble with modern golf equipment , makes the game too easy . Gone are the days of being skillful

....So a trip for you up the Matterhorn with just hob-nailed boots and a woolly jumper, 1930's style.

For example the sweetspot of a modern Driver is about as big as the ball itself. With wooden drivers it was about as big as your middle fingernail . Hence the newer club easier to hit , all modern golf equipment make it alot easier to do everything

....Technology never stands still and it is in Man's nature to constantly 'improve' everything. Where do you draw the line? Should we be using equipment on our cars which result in higher levels of driving skill being needed? Should bicycles not have the latest gear transmission systems etc? I think we should embrace whatever current tecnology offers us and enjoy it. It will require its own set of skills.

Golf is still not "Easy" you still have to swing the club, have timing before the ball contacts the "easy club" , plus as your handicap lowers you get clubs that are harder to use (MUCH smaller sweetspot/less forgiving).

I have been looking at the Taylormade R11 irons and also the RBZ irons and also thinking of changing from R11 driver to RBZ driver as my regular playing partners now drive almost as far as me (they were a good 30-35 yds behind me, now they are only 10yds behind), methinks I should invest in the RBZ and increase that gap again

As i said earlier , you can buy extra distance ! Never used to be the case , it is ruining the Traditional Courses too as the distance people hit the drive increases . I won a long driving contest in 1980 at 242 yds aged 17. I can hit a 2 iron 240 now ! This is purely due to the improvement in the ball , not me or the club. Each to their own but with Golf being a Sport originating from 1500 and based around tradition etiquette and History it should be seriously restrained for the future. :happy2:

If youre investing in a whole new outfit I would hope your going to be fitted properly, rather than just buying the trendy clubs, the RBZ range is poor in my opinion, it certainly will sell loads but it all feels cheap especially the woods and hybrid. Even with an upgraded shaft its still to whippy. On trackman my 910 wasnt touched at all.

Its also not about how far you can hit, I can drive past my fellow playing partners but id much rather hit a 3w or 2i stinger and leave me a whole shot next. So much willy waving goes on about how far you can hit one shot, id much rather keep my short game sharp from 120 in rather than beating one out over a wind and gravity assisted 300 yard drive!

....I respect what you are saying and particularly about the traditional courses being ruined (although I have never played golf).

Have you heard of Real Tennis? - It's a racquet sport dating back from Henry VIII. Very strict rules which still must be adhered to. How old is cricket? (I genuinely don't know). I must admit I don't like the coloured clothing. But surely bat technology has changed?

Suppose so. I thought I would try the black ones for a change as they seem so highly rated on here.

I went in with the thinking I would be coming out with a set or either R11 or RBZ's.
After trying the R11, RBZ and then the Burner 2.0 I felt that the R11's felt a little numb and no difference between the RBZ's and 2.0's. I wasn't keen on the looks of the RBZ and as they performed no better than the 2.0 and as they were £200 more than the 2.0 it was a no brainer

Complatly agree mate and I did get fitted up  :happy2:

I'm the same as you RE how far I can hit it. I can also hit my 3 wood just as far as most of my playing partners do with a driver which leaves me 120-150 and a nice wedge or 9i  :happy2:
