Was looking for updated maps on eBay for my MFD2 and found a pretty good deal. RNS510 Rev B with 5K0 Rev B bluetooth adapter complete with all cables for £400. Seemed a good deal so I emailed the seller asking about condition and after satisfying myself it was in good condition agreed to buy it. The seller also included his armrest Media-in kit as a way of saying thanks for not messing him around!

Box arrived this morning and everything is used but completely undamaged. Very happy!

£10k...with 21k on the clock.

09 plates seem to be a better buy but coming from a 10 plate I didn't want to have anything older...ongoing argument...!

Cheers, my budget will be what my GTI sells for, which will be around £7k mark, so a few off.

I've just sold a 2007 with 80k on it for £4k!  Went really well.

A carbonfibre bonnet

...to match my carbonfibre laptop

Should be picking up the bonnet on weekend, and the laptop should be delivered next week

To replace the Defender.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Who makes the bonnet?
It's VWR, but I got it used from the R32 forum
I didn't initially want carbon, but I read it's a good way to reduce a decent chunk of the front-axle weight (11kg saving from what I hear), so I thought I may as well for the price.

What spec is the lappy?
Intel i7, 2.1GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
13" LCD, 1080P
256GB SATA drive..
Sheet battery (takes it from MacBook Air thickness to MacBook Pro, but 14 hours battery life  :surprised:)

The real reason for buying was the mobility; it will be fast, but also work for what should realistically be 10 hours. My current laptop lasts 90 seconds, but even with a new battery it was only 90minutes. Not practical, since I want to charge overnight, then use all day, rather than lug around adapter with me at all times, and constantly be looking for plugs...

And it's light. Carrying around a metal MacBook just won't do. I can't carry around so much weight; I'm not Hercules!  :signLOL:

Cannot wait; it should arrive in the morning. Am excited to say the least.

Great buy on the carbon bonnet - It's even got AeroCatches already fitted.

Don't forget to always open the AeroCatches BEFORE operating the OEM bonnet release inside the car, otherwise it badly strains the AeroCatches. Looks like you have the key lockable version of AeroCatches. After a few times it quickly becomes habit.  :happy2:

Ah, that's something to worry about; definitely need to make that habit. Thanks for that, Rob :)

I need it relacquered, I think  :sad1:. A few stone chips, and the lacquered edges are going. Not sure how/where to get that done as a high quality job; hopefully not too much money too.

My car's Steel Grey (was going to do a build thread, but can't match some of you on here, so why try?), so I'm going to keep the bonnet in the raw carbon. People may think it's chavvy, but with my black TDs and black badge, will look fairly mean.

....I think that black carbon looks quite subtle with Steel Grey. An OSIR on a friend's, now sold:

The OSIR carbon bonnets have a much deeper lacquer than the VWR but can look more 'bling'. The VWR looks better in my opinion (and is lighter weight being single skin) but is less resistant to wear and tear than the OSIR.

That's a lovely car. I won't be fitting the bonnet for a few months, I don't think. Want to slowly start doing trackdays...

I need to find someone to repair the lacquer first, so it can look pristine.

Then I may wait until next year to put it on, so it gets less grit/water in it...
