A jailbreak for ios 6 has been developed but because it's a tethered version if you need to reboot or Respring (for instance after installing an app or tweak) you will need to connect it to your computer and run a program to force it to reboot.
The same if your computer dies.

No worth the hassle untill the full working 'unteathered' version


I think the prase teathered comes from being 'tethered' / tied to your laptop top cause you regularly need your laptop to restart your phone.

Yeah if you jailbreak your phone it lets you change all sorts of settings. If you are on the latest iOS 6 I'm not sure if there is a jailbreak available yet....might be. 

There is a jailbreak for ios6 but I wouldn't touch it untill it is an unteathered version 

Cheers for the info fellas! Some our Apple devices have been updated (according to my daughter) but not my phone as she can't get hold of it. Have looked into this on the interweb this evening, which website and or software do peeps recommend for this surgical procedure.

I used a jailbreak program called Absinthe from memory. Only takes a few minutes, unlike rooting an Android phone, which takes bloody ages!

Tethered just means you need to use your laptop connected via cable to do the jailbreak. Once jailbroken you can do what you like with it provided you don't upgrade without using your laptop.

Tethered jailbreak is a jailbreak which every time you restart of shut down it will go into recovery then you have to launch the program you jailbroke it with and it should reboot it.

   that's what I said.  Needing the laptop everytime you Respring or battery dies to force reboot

Rather boring, but as the old rubber was getting down to the point of getting slippy I decided they needed to be replaced. So in comes some nice new Goodyear F1 Asy 2's from Elites. £252 with a voucher for Goodyear for some pennies back.
