Loud(er) whistling or wooshing when the turbo comes on boost would point towards a boost leak.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

So, I'm guessing I have a split hose or dv issue somewhere, can anyone give me a few pointers on where to start looking?

it'll be a split dv for sure. I had the same issue and sorted it by getting the new OEM dv from the dealer. It was a pain to replace due to lack of access, but still better than paying a fortune to a garage to replace!
