Have had mine up to 70 +/-80 according to the speedo when it was stock

GTI is quoted by VW as 146 mph top speed. When driving my standard car on German Autobahns I have had 160 on the speedo which is 150 on the GPS. Feels like it would do a little more, but never had the space to do it safely.

As a few others have said the ability to raise the rev limiter (Seriously 6500rpm for a 16v is low!) to 7000/7200 rpm means higher top speeds as long as you have the power/torque to overcome the wind resistance, a raised rev limiter and a tailwind will also help those autobahn loons who show 180mph on facetube, personally I dont want to be doing 180mph in anything other than a plane
