I have found that on unrestricted sections of the German autobahns, my Mk5 GTI can cruise happily all day at around 125 mph but then acceleration gets very slow upwards to 145 mph (accurate GPS speedo). Hatchback aerodynamics are not great at the higher speeds.

180 mph in Audi RS6 Avant, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, etc autobahn-stormers is quite common and not a problem if you are driving as you should be.... FOCUSSED!!

I find on the German autobahn, that the Golf MK5 in standard trim, gets to light on the front at anything over 160 ( It truly needs a splitter for the front at those speeds)

Will be on the Autobahn in 4 weeks (and again on return trip in 5 weeks) although 4 up and fully loaded with luggage and a few crates of beer and 4 snowboards attached to the  roofrack (With a Thule 739Xtender snowboard rack) means the 330D wont be doing much over 100mph on the de-restricted sections 

The Snowboard rack and roofrack is TUV tested to 125mph apparently
