The 6th gear ratio on the 2.0TFSi is 26.66mph per 1000rpm iirc

Call that 26mph per 1000rpm. If you were to hit the rev limiter in 6th (which some of us can given enough road) then that would equate to 169mph (26 x 6500rpm rev limit)

26.66 x 6500rpm equates to 173.29mph (which is what i pointed to earlier)

DSG cars can Rev to 8200rpm if they have the DSG map so this theoretically would equate to 218.6mph - however you are going to need some serious grunt to get that  :signLOL:

VASCAR is a hugely flawed system, relying on external (nonabsolute) reference points, the observing vehicle's speed and human reactions and judgement (i.e., I judge you to have passed the shadow/marker/line/whatever on the road at this point and pushed button 1, then when I passed the reference I pushed button 2).

There have been several court cases where VASCAR data has been thrown out because it has been incorrectly referenced. Laser-based technology is superior in this regard.

Yup i agree it's only as accurate as the operator. But given the fact we were on a runway, the length was known accurately etc and the fact that the cars were pretty much level when the test was started and stopped then i would be inclined to say it was accurate enough  :P :P

Another way of being more accurate with your speed is (if you have an MFD3 with the test menu enabled) have a look at the CAN speed in that. Again it's not wholly accurate but it is always pretty much spot on compared with GPS.

Most of you are "assuming"

The VW official gearings for the 6 speed manual/DSG are  ....
  Man   DSG
1 3.36 3.46
2 2.09 2.15
3 1.47 1.46
4 1.10 1.08
5 1.11 1.09
6 0.93 0.92

Final drive - 3.09, 3.14

so a quick calculation reveals that with a redline limiter of 7400rpm with a REVO stage 2+ car would give you a max (depending on BHP) of 178.7mph on 225/40/18 tyres

Comparing my Garmin GPS to my Racelogic performance box (rated at a guaranteed accuracy of 0.1kmh), there has never been more than 1mph difference between the two. Yes I can accept that there will be inconsistencies from a fixed point, but when you are travelling then you are taking many, many points of reference and the inconsistencies become arithmetically reduced. I'm not trying to get uber accuracy, just to the nearest mph and most GPS timing equipment will do this easily.

I'm glad you have a Racelogic box as I was beginning to doubt myself

140 kph in my manual

....Although my Handbook (06-Build) has exactly the same wording re "motorway function" (page 43), I can absolutely assure you that my headlights do NOT switch on automatically as the result of reaching and holding any speed - Thank goodness!

I've never checked to see if it's a user switchable option.

Here's a nice top speed run i found on APR's website. It's an Audi A3 with a KO4 conversion. Doesn't take long to get to it's top speed :surprised:

....Not enabled (if indeed an option) on mine (tested) and anyway headlights are not as effective as LED DRL's when assessing the distance of a faster car bearing down on you at high speed. Even dipped headlights dazzle and also hide the size of an approaching car.

Who's got led DRL's then Robin  :signLOL:  :P
