My cousin used to be a washing machine (etc) service engineer for the local Bosch/Meile/Smeg etc agents. Top end stuff basically.
He always says the the old Bosch stuff was very solid and reliable (unless you went for the fancy electronic controlled models that had problems) but the modern ones are mostly Spanish built and built down to a price to make them more competetive price wise in the market place ( so now they're SEAT washing machines?
).
Meile stuff is the Rolls Royce of washing machines, but they do have their problems if you're unlucky.
He is under the impression the LG is budget stuff, or used to be, so maybe they've moved significantly upmarket?
Anyway, he always says as a rule of thumb, when you go and look at a washing machine in your local Comet/Currys etc emporium, before you look at any of the machine's features a good guide to how well the washing machine is engineered is simply to tap the side panels. Crap washing machines will be all bendy, good ones will hardly bend and a Meile will just sit there like a German tank soaking up your pathetic efforts..........
